What therapy supports does the NDIS NOT fund?

The NDIS may fund a number of therapy supports for you to access if they are:
  1. Solely related to your disability needs
  2. Evidence based practice
  3. Meet the NDIS reasonable & necessary guidelines

However, some therapies may not be funded by the NDIS as they would otherwise be funded by OTHER government supports, such as the health department. These might include therapies such as doctors appointments, clinical mental health supports, psychiatry, naturopathy, acupuncture, chiropractics, massage therapy etc.

Keep in mind that these MIGHT be funded by the NDIS if deemed necessary for your disability needs however if approved you will likely need this in writing from your NDIA planner to access these specific supports using your funding.

How can I figure out if the supports I need are solely related to my disability or not?
It is best to reach out to your NDIA planner or LAC directly to discuss the types of supports and determine if this would meet your plan guidelines. Where a support might be listed as being responsible by another government department (health or clinical mental health supports) but you have been given approval to use your NDIS funding for these therapies - it will likely need to be specifically listed or written in your plan or providing in writing by your planner or the NDIS in order for your plan managers to claim for this.
