What does a Support Coordinator (SC or COS) do?

A Support Coordinator is NOT a direct employee of the NDIS, they are a service provider who assists NDIS participants to implement and manage their NDIS plans. Their primary role is to support participants to navigate the NDIS system and coordinate the services and supports outlined in their plan.

SC stands for Support Coordination, and COS stands for Coordinator of Supports

Note: Not all NDIS plans include funding for Support Coordination, and this needs to be allocated during your NDIS Planning meeting, or can be requested at a plan review or by contacting your NDIS Planner or LAC to discuss.

The role of an NDIS Support Coordinator can vary depending on the needs and goals of the participant. However, some common tasks an NDIS Support Coordinator may undertake include:
  1. Assisting participants to understand their NDIS plan, including their goals, budgets, and available supports.
  2. Helping participants to identify and connect with service providers that can assist with their specific needs and goals.
  3. Coordinating the delivery of services and supports, including liaising with service providers, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed.
  4. Advocating on behalf of the participant to ensure their needs and goals are being met.
  5. Providing regular updates and reports to the participant and their family or carer about progress and outcomes.
  6. Assisting with the preparation and submission of plan reviews to ensure ongoing funding and support.

Overall, the role of an NDIS Support Coordinator is to provide practical assistance and support to NDIS participants, to ensure they are able to access the services and supports they need to achieve their goals and live their best possible life.
